Mahatma Gandhi
When a person thinks about someone who influenced millions of lives, one would say Mahatma Gandhi is one of the most influential men in history. Gandhi was born in a town called Porbander, now called Gujarat on October 2, 1869. At the time, Gandhi was under British rule, where his father was the prime minister to the local ruler. When Gandhi was in his latter age, he recorded his early life in an extraordinary autobiography “The Story of My Experiments with Truth”. Gandhi had a tough life in his early years; his father died before Gandhi was finished with schooling. Also at the age of 13, Gandhi was married to Kasturba, who was younger than him. He decided to pursuit his knowledge in Law and decided to set sail to England. Many opposed Gandhi leaving, but Gandhi ignored and continued to his path; and it has said that Gandhi promised his devout mother that he would not drink, eat meat, or sleep with women during his time away.
During Gandhi’s time in London he ran across theosophists (a group that believes all religion share a portion of truth), vegetarians, and other that were embittered towards industrialization and the idea of enlightenment. Gandhi was fascinated with these people, which in the end he was ironically introduced to Bhavagad Gita in London. Gandhi’s strong determination to be successful paid off when he got his bar at 1891 at the young age of 12. His success so astounding that he enrolled in the High Court of London; later that year he left to go to India to see his parents and friends.
Even though Gandhi was successful in law, when he returned to India for the whole year, he had an unsuccessful law practice. Therefore, Gandhi tried a new approach at business and decided to accept an offer from a businessperson in South Africa to become his legal adviser.
