Gate City Bank & Ethical Responsibility within the Community

The organization that I feel has displayed very ethical and socially responsible behavior is actually a local organization which I work for.   This organization is Gate City Bank and headed by a person who prominently displays this kind of ethical behavior, Steven J. Swiontek.
A brief history of Steven J. Swiontek shows that he is the current Chairman of the Board of Directors, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Gate City Bank.   He graduated locally from NDSU with bachelor’s degree in business economics back in 1977.   He then later joined Gate City in 1978 as a management trainee, and then in 1979, he was named Personnel Officer as well as Assistant Personnel Manager in 1980.   Steven Swiontek was named Office Coordinator in 1983 with the responsibility of directing activities in nine of the Bank’s offices.
Then, after that very rapid progression up the ranks in Gate City Bank, in 1993 he was named Director of Administrator.   Then, later in 2000, Steven Swiontek was elected to the Board of Directors and named President and finally in 2001 named Chairman of the Board of Directors, President, and Chief Executive Officer.   This was basically a rise from the bottom of the corporate latter to the very top rung of that same letter in the company. Because Gate City Bank is federally insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, of FDIC for short, they have to be sure that they apply to the Community Reinvestment Act. This is an act the federal government enacted in order to ensure that the bank is actually contributing the community that it is located in. (Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council, 2009)
Among the things that a bank can do to ensure that it is applying to the Community Reinvestment Act are volunteering and donating funds to the local community.   That is one very good thing that Gate City Bank is good at doing with its employees.   Gate City Bank’s program is used to ensure donations to many charitable...
