I believe that every person should master the skill of playing a musical instrument. Music is such a powerful medium. The emotion and passion that you create from an instrument can have a tremendous impact on other people’s lives. I think everyone has a particular passage from a song or lyric that they can relate to their own life. Music has no set of rules that must be followed. The limits are endless for what you can create with a musical instrument.
I am a singer and I also play guitar. I know from my experience the joy and satisfaction that comes from writing and playing music. Writing lyrics is therapeutic for me. I remember the first timed I picked up a guitar and tried to play. It was so frustrating but I was determined to learn to play. I spent countless hours every day with a guitar in my hands and eventually I was able to play notes and chords clearly and concise. I was so excited that I could actually play something that I had to get an audience every time I could to verify my own thoughts. I found a friend that was learning to play also and we learned things on our own and then taught each other the things we had learned. After a few years we formed a band and played our music on a regular basis. We disbanded after 3 years and went our separate ways but I have always kept that passion for music. I play music for my children now and try to teach them to play as well. There is no greater feeling than watching my children dance and sing to the music that I am playing for them.
Some people spend their entire lives mastering the skill of playing a musical instrument. In my opinion a person can never truly master an instrument but only learn more about it. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to learn to play an instrument. The end result is so gratifying that I think everyone should experience it during their lifetime.
