George Orwell’s 1984

The effect of high oil and gas prices are taking a toll on Americans everyday.   “Energy investors remained focused on recent government jobs reports that suggest the economy is struggling to make headway against the challenges posed by a troubled housing market and high oil prices” (Wilen, 2007, Oil Falls on Growing Economy Concerns). Every time gas prices increase so does every object in the buying world. The high prices trickle down to everything. High gas prices cost companies more money to move products or parts from one place to another. Here is an example, because of high gas prices airlines has raised airfares and remove offering food to short flights. What does this mean to the consumer? What this means to the consumer is simple. The consumer has to pay more money to travel. Hopefully, the consumers can adjust to the price change or they may decide not to make arrangements for traveling if it is out of their budget. What about the family with five children, which was able to explore the world before frequent price increases? Now, the children’s dreams and hopes of wanting to explore new places are grounded until we do something about the prices.
Another effect of these prices is widening the gap among the different classes of poor, middle and wealthy. If a person does not have a good education, with a well paying job he or she will be just making end’s meat in this new world. Some middle class families may be dropping down to the lower class level because of price changes in everything. If people walked through their local supermarket they will realize prices have gone up in certain products such as eggs, bread, and milk indirectly caused by increased gas prices. At this moment, it is not too late to make a change and lower the price of oil and gas, so we can return to the days when everything was inexpensive.
