CHARACTER ANALYSIS
Romeo Montague (Leonardo DiCaprio) is very impatient and impulsive, not thinking first before he acts. This is the main reason that the movie ends in tragedy, when Tybalt kills his best friend he reacts almost immediately by shooting him, which results in his exile. Also when he decides he will go buy poison and kill himself in Juliet’s tomb, if there had been a little delay he would have known the truth about Juliet. On the other hand it is the same quality that lets him fall in love with Juliet so deeply and so fast.
Juliet Capulet (Claire Danes) begins the play as a childish girl who has not even considered love and marriage, but she grows up quickly upon falling in love with Romeo, the son of her family’s great enemy. She shows a lot of courage in trusting her whole life to Romeo, even refusing to believe the worst reports about him after he gets involved in a fight with her cousin.
The Nurse (Miriam Margoyles) is foolish and according to a description of Mquick to become swept up in the romance of Romeo and Juliet. While Friar Laurence agrees to marry Romeo to Juliet in an attempt to mend the dispute between the two families, the Nurse sees their union as one of legitimate romance. The Nurse recognizes that Juliet shows no interest in Paris' courting and is the only member of the older generation to take Juliet's feelings into consideration.
Tybalt (John Leguizamo) is the instigator of a chain of reactions which change the course of this tragedy, sending it into a headlong collision with fate. Tybalt’s uncontrollable vengeance, skill as a fighter and sense of Capulet pride are admirable in their own ways, but lead Tybalt to his eventual death at the hands of Romeo.
Mercutio (Harold Perrineau) is Romeo's friend, he is not a Montague, nor a Capulet. But his friendship with Romeo puts him more on the Montagues side of the feud. Mercutio has many characteristics, but his main ones are that he is kind of a jokester/teaser, not a...
