Hamlet~Sane or Insane?

                                          HAMLET-SANE OR INSANE?

In the tragedy Hamlet by William Shakespeare, the audience is introduced to the
melancholy prince, Hamlet.   In the events leading up to the climax of the play, it
is obvious that Hamlet is same..   He had a lot on his mind before and during the
play.   It is also quite questionable if the Ghost actually existed.   However, a lot of
controversy remains in deciding whether of not Hamlet is sane.
In the opening scene of the play, Hamlet is still pretty shaken up about
the death of his father.   To make matters worse, he must also deal with the fact
that his mother, the Queen, has recently remarried, less that four months after
the death of her husband.   The Queen marries no one other than Hamlet’s
uncle.   Hamlet now has an uncle-father, which is quite strange for him.
One night while Bernardo, Francisco, and Marcellus are on duty, they see
a Ghost.   The Ghost resembles Hamlet’s father.   The men tell Hamlet about this
and the next night Hamlet waits with them to see the Ghost.   A little after
midnight, the Ghost appears.   It wants to speak to Hamlet alone.   Hamlet follows
the Ghost, against the will of the other men.   The Ghost tells him that his
uncle-father had poured poison into his ear while he was sleeping in his orchard.
The poison had killed him.   The Ghost tells Hamlet to “avenge his fathers death.”
Meanwhile, Horatio and the watchmen are searching for Hamlet and cannot find
him.   When they do, the Ghost is gone.
Towards the end of the play, Hamlet accidentally kills Polonius, thinking it
was the King.   He asks Laertes for forgiveness.   A play is going on that night.
Hamlet speaks with one of the players about adding a scene in which someone
is sleeping in an orchard and then gets poison poured into their ear.   Later that
night, Hamlet is watching the play with the King and Queen.   He begins
explaining the events of the play in great detail....
