Harder Faster Stronger: The Struggle with Steroids.
Steroids are destroying Major League Baseball’s once proud name. Children today imitate the players they look up to and with Major League Baseball’s less than effective testing things are turning ugly. The only way to stop this is to institute stricter policies and more accurate tests.
To address the growing problems with steroids ,Major League Baseball instituted harsher policies after the 2005 season, which included a 50 day suspension for first timers, a 100 day suspension for being caught a second time, and a lifetime ban for being caught a third time. These tougher penalties are a huge step up considering from being 10 day suspension for a first time being caught and 30 days for a second time being caught (“Steroid Penalties”). The penalties are laughable because they hardly ever come to fruition when it comes to big name players. Major League players have argued that they only take amphetamines to play every day because playing a whole season takes a toll on their body (Frias 1). Excuse me but if they need to take...
