Healthful Eating - A Personal Choice
As a lifelong, habitual “yo-yo dieter,†especially in times of stress or depression, Kelly’s weight finally had ballooned out of control. In May 2007 at 235 pounds, it finally dawned on Kelly the toll, and a serious one at that, which it was taking on her health. Her blood pressure had sky rocketed, she was facing the possibility of becoming a diabetic, and her physician was advising medications to keep them under control. Kelly decided once again to undertake a lifestyle change that became a lifelong commitment to maintain. Yet for anyone experiencing the rise in health care costs associated with complications from not living a healthy lifestyle, healthful eating still remains a personal choice.

Risks Associated With An Unhealthy Lifestyle
Healthcare issues play a part in the personal choice to begin living or maintain a healthy lifestyle. When the onset of complications begin to arise from an unhealthy lifestyle because of morbid obesity, these complications may still hold the potential of reversal or brought under control without the need for medication. Morbid obesity has been directly linked to the onset of such complications as diabetes, high blood pressure, and the possibility of heart disease. According to The Obesity Society (2011), supporting evidence of this can best be seen in “the Framingham Offspring Study, where 78% of cases of hypertension in men and 64% in women were attributed to obesity†(para. 2).

When the concerned individual is making the decision to undertake changing his or her lifestyle in the hopes of maintaining better health, or to regain one's health, the benefits of living a healthier lifestyle should be taken into serious consideration.
