Living a Healthy Lifestyle
When concerning healthy living, the media provides the “one plan fits all” appeal. They release new fad diets and exercise plans constantly trying to suck people into them. By convincing the masses that any plan will work for anybody, they rob most people of the proper diet and routine their body requires. When these fad plans are created, they are only creating it with a certain type of person in mind. Different metabolisms, health conditions, and body types aren’t taken into consideration. Some argue that counting calories and increasing exercise is enough for everyone; however, different metabolisms and health conditions can affect a person’s diet and exercise plan so each individual needs a personalized program.
Diet
Metabolism
Metabolism is “used to refer specifically to the breakdown of food and its transformation into energy” (Definition of Metabolism. March 26th, 1998. In Med Terms.). Depending on if someone has a slower or faster metabolism will affect the types of food they eat.
For example, people who have a slower metabolism need things like: water, green tea, soup, grapefruit, apples and pears, broccoli, low-fat yogurt, lean turkey, oatmeal, and hot peppers (10 Foods to Raise Your Metabolism. N.d. In Fitness Tips for Life). These types of foods and beverages have been proven to help boost a person’s metabolism. By knowing this information, one with slower metabolism can create a personal diet plan to fit their needs.
As for those with a quicker metabolism, it doesn’t mean they can just eat whatever and how much they want. Even if it’s not fast food and fried foods they are loading up on, if one is constantly eating anything, it can lead to future health conditions.
Health Conditions
Diabetes. People who are diagnosed with diabetes require a special diet plan. By “special diet plan” this is not really referring to an actual diet....
