There are many factors that contribute to the growth of slavery as an important part of the economy of the southern colonies. Economic, geographic and social factors are three main factors that contributed.   One of the biggest factors that contributed was the uprising of cash crops which brought more positive outcomes.
During those times people were ranked from higher classes to lower classes. The higher classes brought land and money. They also brought along indentured servants to work on the plantations. Lower class were made mostly of Indians and African slaves. During those times racism were a factor in the development. The indentured slaves had an uprising in 1676 due to Bacon’s Rebellion.   Later indentured slaves began to decrease because they were seen as a threat to the peace of the colony. Throughout the time slaves managed to increase again in population size. During the middle passage slaves was hard to come by because of the high death rates.
Southern colonies had long growing season with flat and rich soil. Plantations were spread out across the land so many laborers were needed to assist. Many slaves were used to the weather conditions because of their native land. Slaves worked quicker and got more done than indentured slaves. Cash crops started to become big money makers making the wealthy class focus on growing crops. Trading became very popular due to that advantage. The upper class began hiring more workers to help work the land.
When the settlers arrived in the new world the head right system was established. The agreement was the more adults brought with them the more land they could use. If you owned more slaves then your status was higher.
During those times economic, geographic, and social factors served as the most important factors in the growth of southern colonies. Having flat and rich land was a big factor because that brought cash crops which brought more slaves to work the land.
