History of Terrorism
Terrorism has been around since man has accepted the concept that they conduct violence upon innocent people to make a statement; terrorists do not care if they kill innocent children, elderly, or women; it is the quantity of people they kill. They want to create hysteria among the government they are attacking. The United States stood up and took notice on September 11, 2001; when the Twin Towers was struck by our own airliners, the Pentagon was attacked, and a few brave innocent people directed an airliner into the ground of an unpopulated area. But, it began many hundreds of years before this; the magnitude with which al-Quaeda struck our citizens in the morning hours when everyone was going to work…minding their own business beginning their jobs, getting to school, and the sudden explosions that began…one right after another. Before our government could react to one incident another was about to happen.
Definitions
Terrorism as defined by Kamien, (2006, pg. 431) “in the Code of Federal Regulations as the ‘the unlawful use of force and violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives’”. Terrorists are people who do not care if their life is taken to conduct their operations; they believe in their group and will do anything; even if it means their own demise. Terrorists will utilize any weapon that will provide the end result they are seeking; violence, death, financial gain, or obtaining attention for their cause.
The acts that are conducted by terrorists are premeditated and directed at innocent people; this gets the most reaction by the government and the media. Most acts of terrorism are for political, religious, and financial reasons. They attack areas that are very populated; they want to...
