1. What are the different forms of social media that exist today? Provide examples of different social media and their primary purposes.

There are many different forms of social media type sites all over the web. One that I can think of that’s huge would be face book. This social media giant is used by, well millions. This site is used to reunite with old friends, meet new loves, and even advertise for companies of all kind. Another one that I know of is twitter. This one is as big as Facebook as far as I know. I don’t use it personally but I know that people use it in a wide variety. This one I hear all over the place from TV shows of all kinds.

2. What are the greatest benefits of social media for individuals and society?

      One of the greatest benefits for individuals on social media sites are the fact that they get to see and talk to people that they haven’t talked to in forever. This can mean a lot of things for these people. I know a few people that have reignited old flames with old loves and are now living a happy life with that person they would have never found without Facebook. Another great benefit from social media is the ability to advertise to the whole world by just advertising on these certain websites. Society can take this and use it to see what there is out there and to know that there is a way to get there product out to the world.

3. What are the greatest problems of social media for individuals and society?

      Social Media and social media marketing are relatively new fields.   Maybe 5 – 10 years old at best.   Most other forms of marketing are much, much older.   They have been refined over time to “best practices” that are now the standards of the industry. Over the last 50 years we have refined television commercials to know what works.   We know how to sell a product effectively in 15 or 30 second spots.   They are highly effective.   I bet that the ROI of early commercials was tough to measure, but after years of...
