ICT in a L2 Class
The technological revolution that our society has undergone cannot be ignored by educators who are set to play an important and decisive role in today’s techno-friendly generations. According to Bricall, Integrating ICT in the curriculum from an active perspective favors the integration of our students in the Information and Communication Society. This means that education must be coherent to what the world is giving to the students, and the society we live in, is mainly characterized for being full of information and communication technological instruments. ICT includes all the technological tools that have been created in order to help student to learn other language; as examples exist: CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning); TELL (Technology-Enhanced Language Learning) and CMC (Computer- Mediated Communication). However, besides enclosing these terms, ICT also includes any technological devices, such as radio, Television, Data Show, cellular phones, computer’s hardware and software, internet, etc. All these latter mentioned devices will be used in our investigation, since we want to find out if it is possible to achieve a better understanding and assimilation of English as a second Language by integrating ICT in the classroom.
To obtain a final solution to this answer, there are other important concepts—apart from ICT -- to be developed in order to really integrate ICT to and education context. First, it is the learner’s autonomy. This concept is related to the level of commitment and responsibility that the student acquires towards his own learning process. The learner stops thinking about the teacher as the only source of knowledge, and starts learning by himself. By integrating ICT, we think that autonomy will gain an important place in the student’s performance; since, computer programs, web pages, songs, films, etc. are a great source of information, and they also produce very much motivation on students.
