The Internet, also known as “cyberspace†or the “virtual world†is an environment that is created and designed for trading all types of information. The Internet, which is a mixture textual communications and virtual worlds, enables global communication between many different people from all over the world. The many different types of communication that the Internet has to offer such as, email, chat lines or rooms, and other various virtual reality simulations. But, the one main concern for over the past 10 years is the influence the Internet has had regarding to the social interaction amongst people, and for some, Internet interaction is the only type of culture or communication that they know. By nature, social interaction is a part of growth in people. Social interaction is defined as the interaction taking place in a social setting. The favorable circumstances for social interaction over the Internet develop a sense of engrossment and social engagement far different from most normal interactions, but our common behaviors have changed as a result of these instant and or anonymous interactions (Merriam & Caffarella, 1991).
This can decrease the overall quality of interaction normal, physical settings. For those that is shy, reserved or not willing to interact in face-to-face conversations will, by nature, find the Internet useful in wining their fight over the barriers they face when trying to communicate with others. In reality, it’s like a new approach to breaking the ice with strangers. So, for the many individuals those are easily intimidated by various expressions can trudge less cautiously. The more they ignore the normal face-to-face conversations and rely more heavily on the Internet to interact, the less able they become at communication with others on a normal basis (McKenna, Green, & Gleason, 2002).
