Information Systems and Software Applications



For many companies, information systems and software applications are the foundation of a productive and efficient business.   There are many ways that these applications affect the daily workings in the workplace.   There are many tasks and functions that were once performed manually that are now facilitated by new technology which increases production and efficiency.   In any given company, there are many organizational departments that benefit from these applications and information systems.   These include accounting, human relations, finance, marketing, and management.   I will be taking a look at accounting, human relations and marketing, to see how these applications are put to use.  
The accounting department is responsible for the maintenance of financial information of the company.   This can include statements regarding profit and overhead, losses, and financial projections for the future.   The accounting department would often rely on spreadsheets to organize and display data for interpretation and analysis.   Some examples of software applications that the accounting department would likely use and benefit from would be Microsoft Excel Corel and Quattro Pro.  
The human relations department is responsible for dealing with the interpersonal relations of the company’s employees.   This would include everything from the interviewing and hiring process, to conflict resolutions, to keeping lines of communication open between employees and the upper management.   Human relations would benefit from both word processing applications as well as desktop publishing.   An example of the software used to facilitate this would be Microsoft Publisher.
The marketing department is responsible for advertising for a company and making it as visible as possible on as many different media as possible.   This can include radio and television advertising, billboards, printed materials such as pamphlets and brochures, and...
