Innocent

The song “Innocent” by Our Lady Peace was created into a very soulful music video that can capture the attention of many different audiences.
The setting for this video was constantly being transitioned between the band playing their song, and clips of every day people in their every day lives. I found that having these transitions was a very helpful way for viewers to understand the contents of the song as a whole. Showing clips of the band gives the viewer an understanding of the band’s connection to their own song and its lyrics, while showing the many clips of people and their lives gives the viewer an understanding of the actual meaning behind the song. I believe that these clips showed the actual meaning because they all represented a different person living their unique life. For example, they had poor people in run-down areas, rich people in nice houses, and athletic people on a basketball court. Therefore, this stated that we are all innocent because we are not all the same or perfect. The only problem I found with all of the transitions was that they went by a little too fast to let viewers absorb all of the situations fully. All in all though, the setting was very appropriate for the video.
I found that there were quite a few stereotypes throughout the video. When it showed the clips of people and their lives it seemed that they were a little bit over exaggerated. One stereotype they had was of a girl who was self conscious and wanted a nose job. That is the typical type of insecurity you see from a girl on television. Another stereotype I saw was that they had a black person on the basketball court. This is stereotypical because publicly, basketball is more known for black people to be good at. Lastly, the biggest stereotype I noticed was how they had black people representing the poor. Yes, there are poor black people in the world, and in some areas they are more known as the lower class, but there are poor white people too....
