The internet subculture is often one that is misunderstood by many, and taken to seriously by others,
In this report i will share some examples of internet phenomena, also known as memes.
Memes, pronounced mi:m like theme, is a word used by the general subculture.
Often memes are for the lulz (lulz being laughter at another persons expense), many memes often include
-Rickrolling: A phenomena where a person sends another person a link to a site with false and misleading information. Rickrolling is a video of Rick Astleys 1987 hit 'Never gonna give you up'. When a person trys to close the internet explorer pops ups display to the lyrics of the song, which must be clicked through 44 times to close the internet explorer.
-LOLCATS: another phenomena, this is a picture of cat/s with a funny quotation under the picture that often result in laughter.
-Leet Speak: Leet (Also known as 1337, 3133T among other things) is a hacker, that uses port 1337 (a little more on computer ports later) to compromise a system by infecting it with spyware, adware, worms and trojans. Leet speak is where people replace leters with similar looking numbers (hence name 1337=leet)
a brief description on ports: for a computer to be connected the internet, computers must use ports, sorta like parking spaces. these ports are responsible for sending and recieving data, when a hacker using a program called open orifice discovered a vunrability in once of these ports (port 1337) he exploited that by writing malicious code designed to compromise a system. This is how he got the nickname 1337).
Other internet memes include making fun of current disasters (on picture-message boards such as 4chan.org), doing things for lulz etc
In Conclusion, Internet subculture groups are often referred to as geeks, hackers, cyber terrorists and many other names, this culture is understood and shouldnt be looked down upon.
