Islamic Tessellation
I choose to do the Islamic tessellation. As I began this project I felt a little overwhelmed but as I started the project it became a blast! I started with a 5 inch by 5 inch piece of cardboard. I then took my scissors and just cut a pattern. The piece that I cut off I then taped to the side of my pattern. I then got a sheet of paper and cut it into a square measuring 10 inches on all sides. I choose 10 inches because my pattern was 5 inches and I could go around my square 4 times. I then took my pattern and traced it with a marker. I started at the bottom left hand corner and then for the next pattern I turned it side ways to proceed to the next and then sideways again so that all four corners had my pattern traced. I then took my marker and ruler and traced more lines inside of the pattern I made. This just adds some different combination of design within the project. I then took colored pencils and colored within the lines and even traced around so that it was the pieces were shadowed. I made some different textures with stencils that were made for texturizing my piece. I then decided to add some lines within the pattern to make it not so plain by only solid coloring. I then took a picture as you see about with the finished project and the project with the pattern placed on the project. This shows you exactly how the piece I cut fits into the project. If I would turn it sideways it would fit as well into the picture.
I choose this project not really knowing what I was doing but as I proceeded with the project I had a blast with creating this project. I think that this project could be used for older children possibly fifth grade and up. It was not that complicated but required a little detail that I don’t think the younger children would be ready to try and conquer. I enjoyed this project a lot and felt that the learning experience was awesome.
