Dear journal,
Today is a sunny day here in California. It has been quite a transition from my native land Hawaii to here in the main lands. I have traveled a long way from Hawaii to California; I had to travel by canoe because I was unable to find a job on a whaling ship. These jobs were filled by many young men from Hawaii. I am looked at differently but I am adapting to the lifestyle changes.   In my native home land I watched the Americans colonize in our state. In 1883 US colonialism over threw the independent Hawaiian Kingdom, it is thought that it is the time that the young Hawaiian males started working on the whaling ships to get to the main lands. This is also the time that is thought to have had many foreign travelers traveling to Hawaii which led to the loss of many Hawaiian ethics. Now in Hawaii it is a major tourist traveling area and home to large military bases. (Dr. Rona T. Halualani) (University of Minnesota, 2002)
My family and I moved here to California to start into the business world. In Hawaii we were not able to advance in business because of the colonization happening in Hawaii. When I first arrived in California I faced some secession. This was in fact because I looked differently, people would stop stare make jokes, I experienced so many people looking the other way and not even giving me the time of day. I am so sad I just want to be accepted. I want people to look at me the same. I have never felt so rejected I wonder am I really that different? I do have one thing to look forward to I have been accepted into a college. I want to get a business degree so that I may help my family. The way that I look at it my family has done everything for me and been there for me in so many of my hard times. My family is experiencing the same prejudices’ that I am but for some reason it does not seem to bother them as much. I wish I could just shrug the things people say to me off, I seem to...
