Killer Litter

“Ring…” The school bell let out a blood-curdling ring and sent chairs screeching. Incessant voices were audible as school was over. Pupils burst out of the classroom and sprinted away. I trudged to the school gate. There was a cacophony of sound around me. I let out a sigh and walked as I thought to myself, it’s another boring afternoon. If only I knew… While I was nearing my estate, a little girl appeared out of the blue. Suddenly, I looked up, and saw an old man with a twinkle in his eyes. He was holding a flowerpot, which arose my suspicion. I was on the qui vive and every cautious step I took, I stole a peek at the man. Suddenly, the man threw the flower pot down. It was heading straight for a girl! I knew I had to act fast. The girl stood rooted to the ground, dumbfounded and shocked. I quickly snapped her out of confusion and pulled her away. Just as I did that, a dreadful thing happened to me. Crimson red fluid oozed out from my leg and an undercurrent of excruciating pain overwhelmed me. “Argh!” I groaned. I fell with a thud to the ground. As I lay there unconscious, hot tears stung my painful and sorrowful eyes. Scant minutes later, I woke up and found myself lying down on a hospital bed. My blurry vision soon became as clear as crystal as my eyes met my mother’s gaze. Tears rolled down her soft cheek as she spoke, “Alvin, are you okay? You need to rest in the hospital for three days. But don’t worry, I’m here with you.” I nodded and looked around the spacious room. On my left was my father, whose eyes were red and sore. The hospital door flunked open and a familiar figure walked in with two other adults I had never seen before. I studied them carefully and realized that it was the girl with her parents! She first introduced herself and asked me whether we could be friends. Without a second thought, I agreed to this bright and chirpy girl.
