      Korea is a beautiful country located in Eastern Asia near China and Japan. It is divided into two separate and very different parts: North Korea and South Korea. South Korea is a Democratic Country while North Korea is a country of Communism making their cultures unique and entirely different from each other. South Korea’s culture is greatly associated with tradition. Koreans’ traditional folk dances have been passed down for many generations and are still being taught today. These dances are performed at cultural ceremonies including both group dances and individual performances. Painting has also been a tradition for many years starting as early as the prehistoric times. Painting techniques have been formed and advanced over the years and are recognized worldwide as Korean masterpieces. The South Koreans are also well known for their exquisite architecture. These ancient homes were built with clay tile roofs, a living room, kitchen, and other necessary rooms which allow the balance of positive and negative energy. Materials mostly used for the construction of these houses are: clay, stone, wood, and tile. Currently the homes of the average South Korean are exactly like the homes of the North Americans: modernly designed apartments, houses, and lofts. The traditional dress of the Korean people is called the hanbok. These clothes are extremely colourful and often include colours such as pink, red, blue, green, yellow etc. People still wear these clothes for ceremonies (weddings), special occasions (birthdays), festivals (moon festival), events (traditional dances), and traditional holidays (New Year, thanksgiving).
