Leadership

In response to me being relieved from my duties as the SNCOIC of the Customer Service section, I believe was over exaggerated, and the reason behind my thoughts are, as far as I know, the reason behind it was that some diaries were missing/shredded, which at the time was not noticed, but about two weeks before our MCAAT inspection, we were going through the diaries to make sure they were all good to go, and that’s when we found out some were missing. For that fact, I do take full responsibility for that, it was my section and I should have trained the Marines under my charge better, but if I have a Corporal and a Sergeant of Marines supervising the junior Marines, and still those diaries ended up missing, then what else can I do to avoid that, to me it was just a mistake, we learned from it and we moved on, but instead, it sounds like I have to hold the hands of all the Marines in my section and babysit them all day long, just in case they might do something wrong. We don’t have time for that, and at the same time, they are Marines as well, they know what is expected of them, it would be completely different if they never received training or if they never were told, but that is not the case in this situation.
Leadership was another issue that was brought up in this Fitness Report, it says that I don’t have the ability to effectively lead my section, and that was in part because I don’t get on the Marines’ rear end every time they do something wrong. Everybody has different leadership styles, and maybe mine is not that of a former Drill Instructor, I don’t have to yell at them every time in order to get my point across, at the same time, we have three other senior Marines doing that, do we really need one more? To me, leadership means, “Lead and inspire people. Don’t try to manage and manipulate people. Inventories can be managed but people must be lead.” I strongly believe that I was leading Marines, but if I was not, and my inability to perform as a leader was a...
