What seems more dangerous to you; habitually eating the chemicals and preservatives in a Big Mac, or habitually burning and inhaling a completely naturally occurring plant? Personally, I’d choose burning the plant. Not only is Marijuana less dangerous to your health than fast food, alcohol and cigarettes, but it has valid medical uses and is used to treat anything from anorexia to multiple sclerosis.
I think you would have to try very hard to produce any evidence claiming that an average dose of marijuana has 1,250 calories and 70 grams of fat, but those are the numbers a Whopper from Burger King will add to you once you ingest it. Considering that an average dose of Marijuana is less than half a gram in weight, I doubt its ability to harm me at any level that would affect my everyday life. Compared to alcohol and cigarettes, I have yet to hear any study proclaiming marijuana the sole cause of either liver failure or lung cancer. I have however read a study that states the use of marijuana in Multiple Sclerosis patients can slow the rate at which myelin deteriorates, greatly slowing the loss of motor functions and cognitive skills.
Another benefit to the legalization of Marijuana would be the sales tax the U.S. government could attain from the legal sale of the substance. The economic stimulus our nation would receive could help to bring us out of debt. Also, enormous sums of money would be saved due to all of the prisoners serving time for marijuana related offenses being released. And with Marijuana legalized, the budget for the “war on drugs†could be cut drastically saving money being wasted on a lost cause.
Many skeptics believe that Marijuana is a “gateway drug,†and that habitual use will eventually lead to harder and more dangerous drugs. But how many people would start shooting heroine into their veins when they could go down to their local gas station and legally purchase a pack of Mary Jane Lights? I predict less people would...
