With all of my childhood recollections with literacy, the crucial element has always been a guiding hand that was with me step by step. Although I have been taught so much throughout my life, one of the most important lessons lies in my ability to read and write. Learning to be literate begins from the day you are born, listening to the noises around you and trying to mimic the sounds. From this point onward, your parents and teachers slowly introduce you to the world of literacy. Fortunately, I had the help of grandparents and close relatives to help me on my exciting journey. My three most memorable past times of becoming literate include reading my first book, writing in cursive for the first time, and learning the ABC's.
The first time literacy was brought to my attention I was just about to start preschool. I faintly remember these days but one important moment I remember was learning the alphabet. I started off my day with my mother picking out my clothes to wear and jumping into the car to sit in my big uncomfortable car seat. I was then on my way to my first exciting days of school. I got into the classroom where I met my first academic teacher. She was a small middle-aged woman with really short light brown hair, who always wore knee long dresses. I was then assigned a seat at one of the small wooden tables, which I noticed had a lot of playing toys including colored building blocks. The teacher then got the classes attention and started to take the class attendance calling name by name. As she concluded taking attendance she asked us children to raise our hand if we knew the ABC’s, not many raised their hand. She then started an exercise in which we were about to be taught the alphabet for the first time. She started by holding up big white posters with a huge red picture on it. It was a picture of an apple, which she then signified that it was A for apple. She then stated that it was the first letter of the alphabet. She made us say this letter out...
