In the Low Class: How Progressive Education Hurts the Poor and Minorities, Richard Nadler staggers on an issue of education that is being needs to be implemented in an integrated racial school. Multi-cultural curriculums in place of traditional core knowledge in public school curriculum are all directly responsible for the district's dismal achievement records. The percentage gap in reading and mathematics between whites and blacks has yet to decline. The district feels the education that is given at the schools is below their standards. They argued that since if the system is so great then why blacks test scores are lower than that of white folks. They feel the way they are being taught is not being upheld outside the class rooms and especially for blacks where public education is the only source they can learn from because they cannot afford other alternatives.  



Nicholas Lemann Ready Read!,proposes that schools that are not performing at the standard level should be run by “authorities” that have the power to make that can have an impact, the local district and communities of those areas. Beside changes in school's entire approach to teaching reading, Success for All includes intensive professional development for teachers, a family support team in each school, and specially trained teachers who immediately and intensively tutor students who are falling behind. Instead it involves the ability of the local school community to decide what curriculum teachers will implement, a decision that is rightly made with the input of the teachers who will be called upon to implement it. Thus the fact that Success for All lesson plans originate in Baltimore, not in the school that he observed in New York, is hardly a distinguishing feature. If Lemann intended to expose local control as anachronistic, he might have chosen a better vehicle than a reading program whose inventor, Robert E. Slavin, refuses to introduce it into a school unless 80 percent of the school's...
