Introduction.
I have always been fascinated by the use of mixed media by artists. They way in which things are put together to create one. Artists like Lynne Perrella and Michel Keck have always been those who stand out to me.
Mixed media is used by a large range of artists and can give pieces of art work a totally different feel. The thing that has always attracted me to mixed media art is the textures that are created through the range of mediums, layers can be created by any artist using one medium but there is something different with the layers of mixed media.
Mixed media is the use of different forms put together to create one whole. It uses layer upon layers to build up texture and form. Mixed media refers to a work of visual art which combines various traditional visual art media
The idea that things which many people throw out is used to create pieces of great art.
Chapter One.
Whilst visiting a local art gallery in Marple I came across Lynne Perrella. Her art is very recognisable. Her work stood out to me due to the colours and the textures she has created through the work of mixed media. All of Perrellas work is created using the same style, using layers upon layers of a range of things including photographs, tags, stencils, acrylic paint, water colours and inks. In other pieces of her work other objects can be found, like string for example.
‘Exemplar Journal’ is a mixed media painting by Lynne Perrella. (Figure 1.)
This painting shows a range of textures and colours. The painting its self is a visual collection of letters and numbers collaged together to create painted version of the subject. Perrella focused mainly on numbers in the piece but also has added letters, pieces of card and a photo.
This painting stood out to me due to its colour, when I walked into the gallery my eyes where automatically drawn to Perrellas work.
To enable me to look in detail at this painting I had to stand relatively close....
