In my essay I will be describing the various acts that led to Lady Macbeth to become insane and the build up that led to a line of murders and the rise and fall of Macbeth.
The story is of a brave soldier who is power hungry ends up in his lustful urge for power he kills his own king and anyone else that stands in his way.
However some people think that were it not for Lady Macbeth, Macbeth would have remained loyal and just to his king and saviour and due to his dedication would have been raised to kingship when the king had naturally died and therefore had honestly won over the hearts and the minds of the people with a clear conscience.
Lady Macbeth realises after the opening battle that she wanted power and so then set about manipulating -by means of coercion and other sly means- Macbeth and forcing her power hungry ways upon him.
Lady Macbeth turns much more sinister. We see this when in Act 1 Scene 5 she states “Un-sex me here.†She refers to someone unmaking her as a woman and therefore taking away her femininity and in the process making her an able and effective killer. Giving her the ability to act callous and without remorse for any of her victims.
Lady Macbeth is callous when she continues to try and maintain the power she has gained through her husband’s position. We see this in Act 5 Scene 1 when she Says “What need he fear? Who knows it when none can call our power to decent.†By this she refers to use her venom and newly found unbridled ruthlessness in her aid to take yet more power from Macbeth –the man who loves her-.
After she kills and has various people killed she seems very guilty and has already started to recognize her foolishness her penance of her evil deeds. We see this when in Act 5 Scene 1 she says, “there’s the smell of blood still: all the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand.†This shows her guilt and also her semi-madness at the deeds that she has committed.
