“Come on Rick, just hit it once. Haven’t you seen Lil’ Wayne’s new music video?” Here’s an example of teen peer pressure that happens everywhere, everyday, in the world around us. Many people are not aware of the fact that marijuana has been listed in the US Pharmacopeia, a list of approved drugs in the United States, up until the 1940’s(Harris). Now America is faced with the debate of the legalization of marijuana. These are different pieces that support, or that are against, this nationwide conflict.
Researching many sources so that the pro’s and con’s are both understandable is very important. Hollywood is a prime example of both influences in everyone’s lives. People look at famous stars as role models, therefore they will do anything and everything to be like them. For example, Lil’ Wayne, a well-known rapper, smokes marijuana openly, as well as publicly. Which encourages teenagers t o do the same.
Teenagers are introduced to a more open environment in the world today. Image is a very important thing to teenagers, so it is most effective when stars are doing it. Music has made a dramatic change from the present, to what adults’ used to listen to. Lil’ Wayne is a major role model in Hollywood, as a part of the music industry. In his music, he promotes what adults in these days consider “sins,” sex, alcohol, and marijuana use. Being such a large influence is has caused many teens to follow in his foot steps. A relatively new show on TV as well is a major promoter, “Weeds.” It is about a mother who lost her husband and has to sell drugs to keep her home and children. She experiences crime in all ways, and comes to many life-death situations. Some teens get a “thrill” out of this, and try to copy the actions seen on TV.
