Public speaking is a skill that we will all need to have at some point in our life. Many people have stated that the fear is greater for public speaking than that of death. That is a very strong emotion. The thought of getting up in front of a room full of people can be terrifying without having some kind of training. I find myself getting very nervous even if there are only a few people who I must speak in front of. There is a common misconception that public speaking requires speaking to a room full of people. However, just introducing yourself can constitute as public speaking. When people introduce them self they only have a few seconds to do so. This first impression will last a lifetime, so it is crucial to make it count. It could be the person someone is speaking to may be hiring at his place of business. If a favorable impression was left they might invite this person to interview based only on his first impression.
While learning how to become a better communicator one will begin to have more confidence in themselves. The person will become more comfortable discussing his, or her information whether it is a product or even their own personal goals. Learning the art of public speaking will increase one’s value not just personally, but professionally as well as opening up doors they may have never even considered.
The art of public speaking can be quite lucrative. There are many people who make a very decent living off of just making appearances or presenting a product for a company. Businesses are always trying to sell something, be it a product or a service. These businesses need people who are comfortable speaking and who are confident in what they say. By this person projecting confidence it improves the chances that the people listening to them will trust the company enough to buy their product or service.
