This MaxFactor advertisement uses Carmen Electra, a young white female, probably because of her past history of fame. Carmen has taken on versatile roles and can mold herself into different characters when necessary. Many celebrities are trained to do this but very few can achieve this. This is why for the advertisement of “Maxalicious Naughty or Nice”, Carmen Electra adheres to what the public wants to see and can relate to.   The “Color Me Naughty” side has Carmen looking at the reader with her eyes mostly closed and her head tilted back. Her hand is on her neck in a stroke like position with her mouth slightly open. On the contrary, the “Color Me Nice” side has Carmen looking over her shoulder with her eyes completely open and her hands rested on her arm in as if the camera were not even there. Unlike her counterpart, her mouth is not open.
The camera angle shows just enough to get the message across by having the photo taken just from the elbows upwards. This allows you to know what is going on and alludes to an idea that the company is trying to convey across to the consumer. The lighting is artificial because the background is darkened out for one to see the needed characteristics of the advertisement i.e. the make-up, Carmen’s hair, the light pressure placed with her hands upon her skin, and the difference in clothes choice. In the “Naughty” ad everything is highlighted to give the effect of drama and teasing. There are small shadows under her chin, in her curls and behind her pointer finger but that takes away from the idea that she is innocent and adds to the idea she is a Vixen like woman.
Her counterpart has less highlighted features such as her face, her hands, her arm, her hair just to show you that it is pulled back and her blouse. There are shadows on her neck tracing up to her ear and on her four fingers. This makes you focus more on the purity of her face and softness of her blouse.
