Microsoft bully or benefactor?
1. To what extent do you believe consumers have a choice when it comes to software? What factors impact upon the consumer’s ability to choose computer software and hardware?
You say many things about Microsoft one of them is that Bill Gates helped standardization off formats, this helps when we have millions of computers speaking together every day. 10 to 15 years ago we always had problems like incompatible file formats and can read file format, this is not that big of a deal anymore because we have companies that’s grows big and set the standards.
When I got my first PC I also bought my first Microsoft OS called MC-DOS this was a really good system but really time-consuming, it was about 1993 that I got hold my first graphical user interface for MC-DOS called Microsoft 3.1, this was really innovating simple tasks as opening a file was done 10 times faster than with DOS, Microsoft came with the upgrade for Windows 3.1 called Microsoft 3.11 I saved up and bought it, when I came home I found out that my PC needed an upgrade to handle the new program so I did the upgrades and it worked. a couple years went by and then the Microsoft 95 came, this time I couldn’t just go out and buy the operating system I had to buy a completely new computer, I went out and bought the computer and got the Windows 95 operating system with it for free, or so I thought.
