Novel Set Paper

Growing up in the various cultures and societies we live in today can often times be a very difficult and painful process for our youth to endure.   Transitioning into a young adult was a process that was exceptionally difficult for me and I remember going through it thinking how different I was from my peers and how I wished that I wasn’t so scared to talk to others about how I was feeling.   I wasn’t much of an independent reader and therefore I really held myself back from making friends with characters in novels and really connecting with them over shared experiences.   While I still consider myself to be a “somewhat” young adult I have found myself bonding with characters in the more current novels that have come out and wishing that I had read them when I was going through adolescence.
The books that I chose for my novel set paper come from a series by Laurie Halse Anderson called Vet Volunteers.   These novels were written for a younger young adult audience and I chose them because I will be working with students in a younger age group and I wanted to become familiar with novels that were written for this age group.   These particular novels highlight a different main character in each novel while still basing themselves on one certain group of students.   This group of young children all belongs to a volunteer group that assists at a veterinary clinic during their spare time.   They all share a common love for animals but all come from very different backgrounds and therefore all have different skills and qualities to offer to the group.
