The second debate of McCain and Obama was held on Tuesday October seventh, 2008. On this night throughout the debates, I think it’s safe to say, Obama won this one. He was very well spoken, and he knew what he was talking about. Obama knows how to draw the crowd towards him, and make them listen to him. On the contrary, McCain may know how to speak, but it may not be very interesting, which is very important on debates. The candidates need people to listen to what they are saying, and the second debate was a very important thing to reach out to people. This debate was the only debate with a town hall format. The Gallup Organization chose eighty uncommitted voters from the Nashville area to be there that night. As always they had two minutes to respond, and there were many questions that ranged from the subjects of domestic and foreign policy.
The first question was “With the economy on the downturn and retired and older citizens and workers losing their incomes, what's the fastest, most positive solution to bail these people out of the economic ruin?†Senator Obama replied with speaking about how we are in our worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. And how a lot of us are worried about jobs, our pensions, and our retirement accounts, our ability to send our child or ourgrandchild to college. Obama also thinks we should start cracking down on CEO’s and make sure they aren’t getting bonuses or golden parachutes. Also the company AIG, after getting a bailout, spent 400,000 dollars on a vacation for their company.
I like how Obama approached that issue, because it shows how spoiled we are, and how much we take everything for granted. Also how many companies aren’t taking this seriously when they get bailed out, and go on unnecessary vacations using an unbelievable amount of money.
Another question addressed was “Obviously the powers of the treasury secretary have been greatly expanded. The most powerful officer in the cabinet now....
