Obama

3rd period

1600   Pennsylvania Avenue Washington D.C.
American Method
Dear President Barack Obama,
Have you ever thought about how the American citizen’s lives would change if we had changed to a metric system? It would be a lot different than what the American system is like. We wouldn’t understand or have an idea how much something weighs or how long it is. We wouldn’t know because we aren’t familiar with the metric system. This would be a big change.
My first argument is:   why should we Americans have to learn a new system when we have already mastered a method.   We would not understand the concept of it, the length of it and so on.   We use the American system everyday so changing to the Metric method would mean we would use it everyday instead.   Also we wouldn’t be able to judge or understand how much something weighs or its length.
My second argument is:   We should not change it because everything in our country is already set up for it this way.   If we had to change the method then people in the United States would have to change all of the signs on the roads, highways and expressways.   This would cost our county millions and millions of dollars.   We have also been teaching this method for so many years that the older generations would have to be reeducated to learn the new method.   This would also cost our country more time, money and effort than it would be worth.   The educators, teachers and students would also have to be introduced to the new method and it would have to be a new subject taught in school.   This would add to the cost of education.   One of the biggest changes that would also have to take place would be that all of our cars would have to be converted from miles to kilometers.   This could cause quite confusion with drivers.   Drivers would be in a situation to have to convert their car or be able to know what kilometer speed that they could not pass.   This would also be an outrageous expense to our county.
    My final argument...
