Introduction
In this paper, the organizational ethical issue of volunteer benefits versus the issue of financial perks for those helping with fundraising events. The six ethical decision mak-ing steps from the text Business Ethics: A Stakeholder and Issues Management Approach as follows; “issue clarification, stakeholder analysis, value identification, issue resolution, addressing objections, and resolution implementation”; will be explored in order to re-solve the issue.
Many times business ethics appears to be confused by leaders with personal mo-rality about right and wrong. However, ethics in a work environment is about ensuring the intentions of the company’s and employee’s considerations are aligned to serve all involved. Mostly business ethical dilemmas are more complex, dealing with many real world issues. Managers are not usually stumped with the typically simple moral issues of stealing.
This is especially true for those who work in nonprofit or governmental agencies. While many people who offer their time to aid agencies in their missions think of them-selves as moral individuals, the ethical line often times becomes blurred when it comes to benefitting from perks such as discounts or gifts from community members to the non-profit. In order to explore this issues more clearly, this paper will discuss a particular ex-ample of this issue.
In this scenario, a board director for a non-profit agency whose mission is to pre-vent child abuse is soliciting prizes for a golf outing fundraiser. A well known out of town golf course offers the nonprofit agency a significant discount on how ever many rounds of golf at their establishment the agency would like to purchase resulting in a small loss for the golf course for each round purchased. This amount will be written off by the course as a donation to the agency’s fundraiser.
