Over Crowded Public Schools

Overcrowded Public Schools

A major problem in Florida and mostly south Florida is our public school system. Public schools are becoming more crowded every year. Al Gore and ex governor Chiles have tried proposing different solutions to the problem of over crowed public schools, some have helped very little, but still are not enough. There is no logical benefit to keeping our schools the way that they are, but there could be few risks with attempting certain solutions proposed. A solution for the problem could be to build more public schools and that there becomes a limit to enrollment of students or to break the semester and days up into different sessions.
There was a list, which was made in 1998, that consists of the thirty school districts in the United States that have the largest increase in enrollment. Out of the thirty school districts on the list, seven of Florida’s districts are on that list, which is more than any other state. Of those seven, three of the districts are Broward, Dade and Palm Beach County. Broward County comes in at number four on the list with over an eight-nine thousand student enrollment increase in ten years. Dade County comes in at number five on the list with almost an eighty-five thousand student enrollment increase. Palm Beach County comes in at number six on the list with almost a fifty-three thousand student enrollment increase. Other than those main cities which are located in south Florida, Orlando comes in at number seven, Tampa comes in at number nine, Jacksonville comes in at number twenty, and Largo comes in at number twenty-seven. (Growing Pains: The Challenge of Overcrowded School is Here to Stay) These are very shocking numbers which most parents with children in public school might know about. Another thing that most parents most likely do not know is that Florida has the largest elementary schools in the entire nation, and more students in pre-k to twelfth grade than any other state.
