Columbia is the birthplace and home of the infamous Pablo Escobar. Pablo Escobar was born in a tiny village called Rionegro that was approximately 17 miles from Medellin. Pablo Escobar had a dream and a vision of becoming a rich and powerful man for not only himself but for his beloved mother too. Pablo promised his mother when he was a child that one day he would give her everything she ever wanted. That dream was soon to become a reality with the help of the locals and the cocoa leaf.   Pablo Escobar soon started to produce and distribute the drug cocaine throughout his country and soon reached out to distribute in the United States. The police and other law enforcement agencies were too weak to do anything about the drug traffic and often were bribed by the cartels to stay out of Pablo Escobar’s “business.”In 1972 Pablo Escobar was arrested for possession of over 17 kilos of cocaine or roughly 39 pounds. Soon after his arrest the officers that were responsible were murdered and the case was thrown out of the courts because all of the judges received death threats and too scared and did not want to take that chance.  
The fourth largest country in South America is Columbia. The country of Columbia has a population of roughly 27 million people and the capitol of the country is Bogota. As far as economics are concerned, the majority of the country depends on the cultivation and exportation of coffee beans. Cocoa leaves are also grown in Columbia and the leaves are the main ingredient involved when producing the very powerful and addictive drug cocaine. “Columbia is one of the world largest producers of the drugs cocaine, and heroin producing 50,900 hectares of coca that they sold 75% to the United States."
