Purpose of the Guide

"Only one person can really manage your career - you as the owner”
This guide is designed to help you identify and realise your career goals and, more specifically, to secure a job of your choice at the end of your MBA studies. Most people who decide to take a year or more out to complete an MBA wish to return to a more challenging and rewarding job at the end their studies. The objective may be to return to the same sector or industry but to a more senior and demanding role, or it may be to make a major career change by entering a completely different sector than before or establishing your own business. The end goal is still the same - to find a role which will utilise the skills you have gained from the MBA programme and enhance your career options and earning potential. There are many textbooks covering all aspects of career management, job hunting and setting up in business. This guide aims to distil most of the key messages contained in these books, and place them in the context of your MBA. Although the guide is focused on seeking employment within an organisation, there are specific references to self-employment, and many of the general points raised apply equally to setting up your own business: employer should be read as client and job should be interpreted as a service (or product) provided.
