TOPIC: The never ending DWI problem
GENERAL PURPOSE: To persuade
PROPOSITION: DWI can take a lot of your time and be very stressful
SPECIFIC PURPOSE: To persuade the audience to not drink and drive.
Introduction:
You might be interested in what I have to say if you value your time, money, and the lives of your loved ones. My intentions today are to make you aware of the consequences, hassles, and inconveniences that come with DWI and to hopefully to persuade you to not consider drinking and driving.
I. The first consequence of getting caught with DWI is temporary incarceration.
Going to jail is a serious matter that one does not realize until it happens to them.
A. First offence is license revoked for 90 days, according to DWI laws.com
B. Getting arrested for DWI is unfortunate because the arresting officer treats you with no respect
C. Going into jail for the first time can be a life changing experience. According to some people I know who have had a DWI, say the small amount of food there is barely edible and has no taste and that they had to share a cell block with someone, so you pretty much don’t have any privacy.
D. Second offence is up to a minimum of 10 days 3 in county and 7 in the pen, according to NH-DWI.com. While you are serving this offence, you may lose your job and also finding another job may be challenging because you have the DWI on your record.
II. The second consequence is time and money.
A. Not only do first time offenders have to pay fines of up to $2000 they must also have the ignition interlock installed. According to KOBTV.com N.M. is the first state that requires interlock for first time offenders.
B. When you are charged with DWI you must appear in court for your trial.
C. DWI offenders in N.M. are also required to pay for and attend counseling classes according to Drunk Driving Defense.com.
III. The third and most important reason to avoid DWI is death.
