My central belief about persons and his/her potential is made clear in the statements that a person is “an interrelated, interdependent, interacting, complex organism, constantly influencing and influenced by the environment†Sills & Hall (as cited in Lucy J. Hood, 2006). “Because a person is constantly interacting with the environment many interrelated factors affect the person’s health. The person’s response, in turn, results in environmental changes. Because of these interactions the change in any part affects the whole human-environment system†(Lucy J. Hood, 2006). According Orem’s theory, “A person under the care of the nurseâ€. On the other hand, as a person, the nurse continually interacts with the personal environment. Being a professional, the nurse constantly interacts with professional environment (as cited in Lucy J. Hood, 2006). Also, “A more dynamic state of personhood (called fluid) emerges when the person focuses on the shared world, as intersubjectivity opens new opportunities for growth through synthesizing alternative ways of being. This state involves engaging self with others in a more authentic way that is dependent on social interactions, and, in the process, individuals are changed by new appreciation or understanding brought forth by interaction with another.†(Penrod, Kolanowski, Loeb, & Hupcey, 2007)
I believe a person’s growth and development is an increase in the complexion of function and skill progression .it is the capacity and skill of a person to adapt to the environment.
When a person chooses to be a nurse they have certain goals, both personal and professional, in mind. A person must have the potential to learn, grow and develop in order to achieve those goals. Building on the body of knowledge that professional nursing has developed in order to help and care for others is basic to the nurse.
