Many college students procrastinate and go through their entire day with nothing accomplished, especially when it is procrastinating about writing an essay. They may sit and play video games or go out to the beach with their friends, getting absolutely nothing done. If you want to be an expert procrastinator you could clean while putting off your work, maybe sit and stare out the window dreaming, or surf the web and read strange articles. Any combination of the above would fill your day. If you do all of the above you will find that procrastinating can be really useful in accomplishing other tasks.
Picture this: you are sitting down with a piece of paper in front of you, pen ready at hand, dreading putting that first ink mark down. You look around at your desk and see all the clutter that you have been pushing to the side for weeks (procrastinating on cleaning it). What do you do? Put the lid back on the pen and start to organize your books to give you some room to work. Throw away all the old papers; stack everything neatly into a corner. Now you are looking around your room and see that you have been slacking. Before you know it you are doing the laundry, making your bed, throwing away half-eaten food you found hiding underneath the bed. The carpet is dirty so you grab the vacuum. After your room is clean you just keep going with the vacuum. An hour or so later the whole house is clean – dishes done, toilets scrubbed. Sure, you still have not started on your essay, but you have gotten other tasks accomplished that you were putting off so vehemently. Plus, now at least you have a clean work environment which means fewer distractions and more of a chance to get your paper done.
Sitting back down at your desk with your pen and paper again you start thinking of a topic. Try staring out the window to brainstorm ideas. Nothing is coming to mind but you at least get to take in the beautiful sun and scenery. You can see the trees gently swaying with the breeze and...
