Racism and Sexism in Exploitation
Whether we recognize or not, racism and sexism always exists in each society. About 150 years from now, after American Civil War, slavery effectively ended in the U.S. Alice Paul walked out for women's suffrage, and led women take a step towards the Equal Right Amendment to the Constitution in 1923. However, had racism and sexism just ended and not existed any longer? The answer is debatable. Prejudice may be terminated by government, but the discrimination in the society will not disappear is foresee. Racial Segregation still occurred after the prohibition of slavery. Sexist comments still are present in places such as schools and workplaces. Racism and sexism have become stereotypes in our society and we do not even discover sometimes. Advertisements, as the essence of each company, are often the chief causes which put minorities and women in a negative light and bring stereotypes to our society.
To begin with, African Americans had been belittled by the society for a long period. Although racism has been publicly corrected, racial stereotypes are still emerged from some insignificant sides that we often neglect. In 2003, researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Chicago pointed out a study that there was widespread discrimination in the workplace against job applicants whose names were merely perceived as "sounding black". These applicants were 50% less likely than candidates perceived as having "white-sounding names" to receive callbacks for interviews. In contrast, institutions and courts have upheld discrimination against whites when it is done to promote a diverse work or educational environment, even when it was shown to be to the detriment of qualified applicants. The researchers view these results as strong evidence of unconscious biases rooted
