A belief system that changes and evolves to suit it's time and environment. A poor example of a living Religion would be one that is stuck in the past. If a Religion hasn't changed since it's creation, or continues to cling to a dogma that is obviously out of step with the time it's in, or it's social environment, then it is no more living than a stone. It is doomed to irrelevance simply because society changes and it doesn't.
Pope John XXIII had a short reign of 5 years but in those 5 years he turned Christianity which had an old system at the time into a modern day system which made it more relevant to modern problems. He did all this by addressing the 2nd Vatican Council. This alone was a huge event. He asked for all masses to be preached in the native language of the region they resided in.
He requested that priests would to be more update with the problems of the “new world†so they can treat the wounded souls with more ease and comfort them in their pain. John’s 5 year reign was a surprise as the cardinals who elected him believed he would die soon and not surprise to live for 5 years.
Pope John XXIII requested during the 2nd Vatican council that all christian churches come together to form “Pacem in Terrisâ€, Peace on Earth as he wanted the distrust and even hate between the different churches to be gone so that all the churches could remember their true goal was. To teach the world how to live, he re taught the teachers of comforting and confronting the issues that modern society were now plagued with.
With modern day answers that weren’t so cryptic but answers that a deeper meaning and could be properly practiced but the followers of Jesus Christ.
