REASON TO TRUST THE GOVERNMENT:
The number of women and minorities holding powerful government positions is increasing.
The citizens of the United States have many reasons to trust the government when it comes to minorities holding powerful governmental positions. It is easy to trust that the government is looking out for the interest of the people, because a major interest of citizens when it comes to government is who is elected and who holds authoritative positions within the government. The future of politics is moving toward a larger number of minorities in office, this is because the population of the United States is growing. By the middle of the century, it is expected that 50 percent of the U.S. population will be made up of minorities. This means that there will be more citizens in the United States that would like to see minorities in office because these people are representing them and the country. The government recognizes that and recognizes that change is coming. This kind of change has already begun with the election of the first African American President. With President Obama’s election there is even more reason to trust the government and their concern with the desires of America’s citizens.
More women holding powerful positions in the government are another reason the people should trust the U.S. government. Woman have made great advances in equality in the United States throughout history however, women remain not fully integrated into every position of the government. Recent increases in women holding powerful positions in government, has allowed women to be seen as leaders in the public eye. A prime example of this visible authority and leadership is the first female Presidential candidate in the 2008 election.
