ADAPTING TO NORTH AMERICA

The book, “Red, White, and Black”, written by Gary B. Nash is about the early settlers of North America and their struggles to adjust to the foreign land.   When the Europeans first came to Americas there were already the Native Americans settled in the land.   The Europeans also brought over African Americans to use them as slaves.   There were now three different cultures in the new land and they had to figure out how to adapt to the new environment. This is the thesis of the author of the book, Gary B. Nash.
As Nash puts it in his book he describes the Native Americans as “savages” and the Europeans considered them as a primitive race.   Although the Native Americans were considered primitive they were highly advanced in agricultural.   Also another thing that the Native Americans had going for them was the fact that they knew the land.   The Europeans were accepted by the Native Americans and informed them with their knowledge of the land, medicine, fishing, hunting and their advanced agricultural techniques. As the Native Americans gave to the Europeans they gave back, they shared their religion of Christianity.   The Europeans believed that by teaching the Native Americans Christianity that they were saving them from themselves.   Spreading the faith of Christianity was a major goal of the Europeans.
The Africans were brought over to the Americas by the Europeans.   When the Europeans first interacted with the Africans they saw them as primitive race.   They wore barely any clothing like the Native Americans and also lived in small groups together.   Although they were a primitive race they did have Timbuktu where they were maybe more advanced than some European cities.   Another thing that the Africans had going for them was that they had discovered metal working as early as 450 B.C.   Although the Africans were advanced in some ways the Europeans saw them as primitive and decided to use them as slaves to...
