Religion: a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature and purpose of the universe. Islam, Christianity, and Judaism are the three major religions of the world today. The religions are very similar in beliefs, practices and many other things. Many people say religion is believing in something bigger than you.
Islam is a religion of 1.3 billion people. A large number of Muslims would be in the Middle East, North Africa and central Asia. Muhammad founded Islam in Saudi Arabia around AD 600. The basic belief of Muslims is that there is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the messenger and they pray five times a day facing Mecca. Muslims holy places are Dom Rock, Jerusalem, Mecca and Medina. Their holy text is the Quran, they worship in a mosque. The two main branches of Islam are Sunni with 83% and Shiite with 16%.
Judaism is a religion of 14 million people. A large population of Jews is in Jerusalem and in the United States. Abraham is the founder of Judaism. The basic belief of Jews is that they are still waiting for the messiah and their Sabbath day is Saturday. They have bar and bat mitzvahs as the rite of passage for young people. Their holy days are Hanukkah, Passover, and Yom Kippur. Their holy places are the Wailing Wall and jerusalem. Jews holy text is the Torah. Jews religious leader is a rabbi. The major branches of Judaism are reform, orthodox and conservative.
Christianity is a religion with 2 billion followers. A large population of Christians is in North America, South America and Australia. Jesus Christ founded Christianity in belthlham. The basic beliefs of Christians is Jesus gathered disciples founded on teachings of Jesus and rescuration. Their holy places are Jerusalem and belthlham. Their place of worship is a church. Christian’s holy text is the holy bible. The major branches of Christianity are Roman Catholic, protestant, and orthodox.
