Leonardo da Vinci was a very influential figure in the Renaissance. He many significant contributions that had a lasting impact on art. He is considered to be one of the three giants of the High Renaissance with Raphael and Michelangelo. Among his many talents Da Vinci was a scientist, mathematician, inventor, sculptor, painter, writer, architect, and musician. His is what is known today as a “Renaissance Man.†He is also considered to be one of the greatest painters of all time, and even one of the most talented people who ever lived.
Leonardo da Vinci is best known for his paintings. When he painted, Leonardo took many different things into consideration. He would use techniques that would allow him to make a masterpiece. He was also aware of many things including light, the human body, and human emotion. Da Vinci’s most famous paintings include the Last Supper, the Mona Lisa, the Virgin of the Rocks, and the Vitruvian Man.
Of these famous paintings the first to be completed was the Virgin of the Rocks, which was painted from 1483-1486. This is now located in the Louvre in France. This piece of artwork shows many techniques that were typical for Da Vinci including the contrasts between light and dark. Next 1495-1498, Leonardo painted his most famous painting, the Last Supper.
In 1503, Leonardo da Vinci painted his 16th oil portrait painting and probably his most famous. It was the Mona Lisa. This painting is known for the smile on the women’s face. This is now located in the Louvre in France. The Vitruvian Man is a world-renowned drawing with notes created around the year 1492 from one of his journals. Leonardo based his drawing on some hints at correlations of ideal human proportions with geometry.
