Paper Summaries
The first paper I read was about Anxiolytic-like effects of oleamide in group-housed and socially isolated mice. The study used male swiss mice which were three weeks old. The oleamide was dissolved in corn oil and administered intraperitoneally. they used doses of 5, 10, and 20 mg/kg. Diazepan was also used dispersed in 0.9% saline.
The first test consisted of a plus sign shaped maze with two open arms and two closed arms. Thirty minutes after the mice were injected, they were placed on the center     of the maze and were allowed 5 minutes to roam around. The entries into closed and open arms were recorded as well as the number of exploratory head dips. Results of this test showed   in group housed mice, that oleamide and diazepan treatment showed an increase in open-arm time , open-arm entries, and head dips. In socially isolated mice, which initially showed decreased open-arm time and increased head dips, Oleamide and diazepan treatment showed an increase in open-arm time and entry and decreased head dips.   A second test done used a wooden box with 3 equidistant holes in the floor. The floor was also divided into equal sized squares. Thirty minutes after injection, the mice were placed in the center of the box and were allowed 5 minutes to explore. The activity of motion and head dips into the holes were recorded. Results with the group housed mice, after treatment with both   oleamide and dizepan showed increase in head dip count and duration yet neither affected locomotion. in socially isolated mice, which initially showed lower head dips and duration, treatment with the drugs again showed an increase in number of dips and duration.
The second paper i read was about the neuropharmacological effects of oleamide in male and female mice. The mice used were Vom strain albino mice and the oleamide was injected intraperitoneally in doses of 5, and 10 mg/kg. For the first test, a small wooden test area was divided into equal squares and the mice...
