Rising Oil and Gas Prices

Most Americans drive huge sport utility vehicles and pick-up trucks and spend anywhere from 60 to 100 dollars a week in gas to drive around. Americans are struggling with the price of oil and gas rising because of limited fossil fuel available and high demand across the nation; therefore, Americans need to find ways to lower our dependency on these resources. There are a few reasons that cause oil and gas prices to continue to increase and the effects of these prices are crippling our economy. However, there are ways we can lower the prices of these resources and preserve our environment by finding other alternatives to power our cars, airplanes, factories and heat our homes.
One reason of high oil and gas prices is the living habits of Americans. We believe the bigger object is the better. Americans drive bigger cars than any other countries. Because Americans prefer driving big sport utility vehicle and pick-up trucks are they burn more gas than economy cars. Most trucks average about 18 miles per gallon compare to economy cars. As a nation, we have one of the largest demands for oil and gas to preserve our extravagant lifestyle. At the present time our demand for resources will not be reduce anytime soon. “The belief that global demand for oil and its’ by byproducts will continue to outpace supply fueled the rally that briefly took prices to the historic high” (2008, Oil prices jump to $100 a barrel ¶2). Another major factor influencing gasoline prices 2005 was the increase in crude oil prices. Crude oil prices rise, also, because of high demands. Seasonal weather effect the price of oil and gas. “When crude oil prices are stable, retail gasoline prices tend to gradually rise before and during the summer, when people drive more, and fall in the winter” (Energy Information Administration, 2006, A Primer On Gasoline Prices).
