Differences Between a Group and a Team
The purpose of this paper is to give the reader the information to be able to distinguish the difference between a group and a team. It will also show how diversity in the workplace is important in organizations and how this diversity affects the team dynamics in the workplace.
A group is when more than one person gets together and has something in common but not for any particular reason. A group can come together anytime, anywhere and at times for no specific reason. There is no reason for any purpose or goal to be met. There are no positions to be held in a group.
A team is when two or more people come together in order to perform or achieve a certain goal. Each member works towards the same goal that has been set out for them. Each member will have a particular job to perform as well as a title (or position) to go with it. Examples would be: a leader to take charge and to make sure things stay on track or an organizer who keeps up with what needs to be done and who is doing it as well as any other things that might pertain to getting their goal accomplished. The work is divide among team members so the work load is equally shared which makes it easier to obtain satisfaction of a completed goal. Being a member of a team gives you support as well as motivation.
A lot of people think group and team are the same. They are wrong they are two different things. As I stated before a group is when two or more people get together just to hang out together for no other reason than to socialize. An example of this is when 5 or 6 girls get together at the mall to talk and laugh together. These is a group but take these same girls and put them together to play a game with another group then they become a team because they are going to work together to be victorious over the other girls.
